Ronald Araujo Signs New Barcelona Deal Until 2031

Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo has committed his future to Barcelona, signing a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2031, the club confirmed on Thursday.

The 25-year-old, who arrived at Barcelona from Uruguayan outfit Boston River in 2018, has become an integral part of manager Hansi Flick’s plans. Over five years with the Catalan giants, Araujo has made 155 appearances, scoring eight goals, and cemented his reputation as one of the team’s defensive pillars.

Araujo’s renewal comes shortly after Barcelona secured their place in the UEFA Champions League last 16 with a dramatic 5-4 win over Benfica in Lisbon, a match in which Araujo inadvertently scored an own goal in the second half. Despite that setback, his role in the team remains undisputed.

Barcelona currently sits third in La Liga, trailing leaders Real Madrid by seven points.
