The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a significant milestone in the nation’s power sector, revealing that Nigeria has reached a new peak power generation of 5,543.20 MW.
This landmark achievement occurred on Friday, February 14, 2025, at 11 PM, surpassing the previous record of 5,478.73 MW, which was set just a day earlier on Thursday, February 13, 2025.
The milestone was disclosed in a statement released by the company’s management on Wednesday.
The statement read, “The Transmission Company of Nigeria is pleased to announce that the Nigerian Power Sector achieved a new peak generation of 5,543.20MW for the year 2025, on Friday, February 14, 2025, at 11:00 pm. This surpasses the previous peak of 5,478.73MW recorded on Thursday, February 13, 2025.”
In addition to the new peak power generation, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) highlighted another major achievement in energy distribution.
It reported that the Maximum Daily Energy supplied on that day reached a record-breaking 125,159.48 MWh, surpassing the previous high of 121,674.88 MWh, recorded on February 7, 2025, by an impressive margin of 3,484.60 MWh.
The company confirmed that it successfully transmitted the new peak generation and maximum daily energy to distribution companies nationwide, ensuring efficient power distribution to consumers across Nigeria.
“Notably, the new Maximum Daily Energy of 125,159.48MWH is the highest ever recorded in the nation’s electricity industry, exceeding the previous record of 121,674.88MWH on February 7, 2025, by 3,484.60MWH,” the statement added.
This achievement reflects the ongoing efforts and commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, to enhance Nigeria’s power generation capacity and electricity supply.
