A second-half penalty from Benjamin Sesko secured RB Leipzig’s 1-0 victory over Wolfsburg on Wednesday, booking their place in the German Cup semi-finals.
The match started slowly, with Wolfsburg’s Mohamed Amoura hitting the crossbar shortly after the break. However, Leipzig quickly turned up the pressure, with Sesko coming close to scoring before converting a penalty to give his team the lead.
The penalty was awarded after a Sesko cross struck Wolfsburg’s Kilian Fischer’s arm, which was slightly outstretched from his body. The referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot, and Sesko made no mistake, sending the ball low and to the left for his third goal in three German Cup appearances this season.
Leipzig, who have won two of the last three German Cups, will now await their semi-final opponents, which could be either holders Bayer Leverkusen, three-time winners Stuttgart, or third-division Arminia Bielefeld.
The draw for the semi-finals will take place on Sunday, with the final scheduled for May 24 in Berlin.
