Traffic at the Gare du Nord train station in Paris was suspended on Friday following the discovery of a World War II bomb on the tracks leading to the nation’s busiest terminal, officials reported.
The unexploded device was located “in the centre of the tracks” overnight during maintenance activities near the Saint-Denis suburb, as the national SNCF rail company stated.
The bomb “originated from the Second World War,” noted the RER B suburban train in a message on X.
All service to the train station, which accommodates Eurostar trains as well as high-speed and local routes, was halted while Paris police worked to neutralize the bomb.
Gare du Nord, situated in the northern part of Paris, is the nation’s most crowded rail terminal, accommodating around 700,000 passengers daily, according to SNCF.
