The United Nations Security Council has voiced deep concern over efforts to establish a parallel government in Sudan, warning that such actions could further escalate the ongoing conflict in the country.
In a statement issued on Friday, March 7, 2025, the UNSC called for a permanent ceasefire and reaffirmed its commitment to Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
It urged all parties involved in the conflict to comply with international law, while stressing that member states must avoid any external interventions that could exacerbate the instability.

The statement comes after Sudan recalled its ambassador to Kenya, Kamal Jabara, in protest over meetings in Nairobi involving political forces and leaders from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) who were discussing the formation of a parallel government.
Kenya defended its hosting of these talks, claiming they were part of broader efforts to find a peaceful resolution in coordination with the UN and the African Union.
The conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF, which began in April 2023, has led to over 20,000 deaths and displaced nearly 15 million people.
However, some research suggests the true death toll could be as high as 130,000.
