Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has chosen Alhaji Ibrahim Augie as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election, replacing his deputy governor, Senator Umar Tafida, the state government announced on Sunday.
The APC National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Suleiman Argungu, announced the decision in Birnin Kebbi, citing professional legal advice on the incumbent deputy governor’s eligibility.
“The present Deputy Governor was dropped as the running mate to Governor Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu for the 2027 general election based on professional legal advice,” Argungu said.
According to Argungu, the decision was made with Tafida’s understanding and consent, and there was no disagreement between the governor and his deputy.

The party official called on APC members and supporters across the state to accept the development and work together for the party’s success in the 2027 election.
Idris also dismissed suggestions of any rift with Tafida and appealed for continued unity and cooperation as his administration pursued further development across the state.
Augie, a former Commissioner for Finance in Kebbi State during the administration of former Governor Atiku Bagudu, hails from the Augie Local Government Area.
