Chris Eubank Jr Fined £100,000 for Egg Incident with Conor Benn

Chris Eubank Jr has been fined £100,000 ($129,000) after throwing an egg in the face of his boxing rival Conor Benn during a press conference in February. The incident occurred in the build-up to their upcoming fight in April 2025, reigniting tensions between the two fighters.

Eubank had previously referenced Benn’s failed drug tests in 2022, which led to a lengthy dispute with anti-doping authorities. Although the World Boxing Council cleared Benn in 2023, citing a highly elevated consumption of eggs as a reasonable explanation for his positive result, Eubank’s actions at the Manchester press conference in February sparked further controversy.

During the face-off on stage, Eubank pulled an egg from his pocket and smashed it against Benn’s face. This provoked a brawl, with promoter Eddie Hearn and Benn’s father, Nigel, attempting to intervene.

The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC) issued a fine to Eubank following a misconduct hearing. A statement from the BBBoC confirmed that Eubank was found in breach of regulation 25 (misconduct) for his conduct during the press conference and was fined £100,000.

Eubank and Benn are scheduled to face each other at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on April 26, 2025, after their original October 2022 fight was delayed due to Benn’s failed tests.

Benn, who holds an undefeated 23-0 record, tested positive for clomifene, a female fertility drug, but was cleared to fight in the UK after the UK Anti-Doping Agency decided not to appeal the lifting of his ban.

Eubank, 35, defended his actions at a later media event, stating, “Did I cross the line? During this whole process, I think many lines have been crossed. Throwing an egg at somebody who absurdly claims that was the reason why he failed two drugs tests, I think that’s light.”

The upcoming middleweight clash will revive the Eubank-Benn rivalry, following the intense contests between their fathers, Chris Eubank Sr and Nigel Benn, in the early 1990s.
