The Muslim community at the Nizamiye Mosque, one of the largest mosques in Southern Africa, gathered on Monday to celebrate Eid-al-Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
According to News Central’s Bongani Siziba, the United Ulama Council of South Africa confirmed that the crescent moon, signaling the conclusion of Ramadan, was sighted in South Africa on Sunday evening. This paved the way for the nationwide celebration of Eid on Monday.
The day began with the Fajr prayer in the early hours of the morning, followed by the special Eid prayer at the Eidgah, where hundreds of worshippers congregated to offer the two-part prayer. The gathering was a moment of spiritual reflection, joy, and community bonding as Muslims celebrated the completion of a month of fasting, devotion, and charity.
Eid-al-Fitr, also known as the “Festival of Breaking the Fast,” is a significant occasion in the Islamic calendar, bringing families and communities together in gratitude and festivity.
