Newcastle Boss Eddie Howe Hospitalised, to Miss Man United Clash

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has been admitted to hospital and will miss Sunday’s crucial Premier League fixture against Manchester United, the club has confirmed.

The 47-year-old was taken to hospital on Friday evening after feeling unwell for several days. In a statement released on Saturday, Newcastle said Howe remains under observation and is currently undergoing further tests.

“The Magpies’ head coach was admitted to hospital late on Friday evening having felt unwell for a number of days,” read the official club statement. “Medical staff kept Eddie in hospital overnight for further tests, which are ongoing. He is conscious and talking with his family, and is continuing to receive expert medical care.

“Everyone at Newcastle United extends their best wishes to Eddie for a speedy recovery.”

In Howe’s absence, assistant manager Jason Tindall and first-team coach Graeme Jones will oversee touchline duties at Old Trafford, where Newcastle face a pivotal match in their quest for Champions League qualification.

The Magpies are currently seventh in the Premier League but could climb as high as third if they win their two games in hand. Due to the strong performance of English clubs in Europe this season, a top-five finish is now expected to secure Champions League football for next term.
