The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has begun reconstructing three collapsed transmission towers along the 330kV Kainji–Birnin Kebbi power line.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, confirmed that three contractors have been mobilised to the site, each tasked with rebuilding one of the fallen towers. This approach, she explained, is designed to speed up the repair process and ensure swift restoration of power transmission.
“To lessen the impact of the outage on Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (Kaduna Electric) and its customers, alternative supply routes have been activated,” Mbah said.
According to her, Sokoto and Birnin Kebbi are currently receiving between 6MW and 7MW of bulk electricity through an alternative 132kV line: the Mando–Zaria–Funtua–Gusau–Talata Mafara–Sokoto–Birnin Kebbi route, which is fed from the Mando Transmission Substation.
“TCN appreciates the patience and understanding of the affected communities as contractors work diligently alongside our supervising engineers to rebuild the towers and restring the 330kV line,” she added.
The company expressed regret for the disruption caused and reaffirmed its commitment to restoring full supply as quickly as possible.
On Thursday, May 8, 2025, residents in Kebbi and Kaduna States experienced a major power outage after the collapse of the towers near Yauri. The incident disrupted electricity supply to large parts of the region.
Kaduna Electric confirmed the development in a statement signed by Abdulaziz Abdullahi, Head of Corporate Communication, which was shared on the company’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle.
The company assured customers that TCN engineers were working to rectify the problem and that normal supply would be restored soon.
