Rúben Amorim has assured Manchester United fans that brighter days lie ahead after a turbulent campaign, while taking full responsibility for what he called a “disaster” of a season.
Speaking at Old Trafford following United’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa on the final day of the Premier League season, the Portuguese manager issued a heartfelt apology to supporters. The club finished in 15th place, their lowest league standing since their relegation in 1974.
United’s poor domestic campaign was compounded by a Europa League final defeat to Tottenham earlier in the week, meaning the team will miss out on European competition for just the second time in the last 35 years.

Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag in November, admitted he had failed to deliver a turnaround but urged unity and belief moving forward.
“I want to apologise for this season. I know many of you are deeply disappointed in both me and the team,” he told fans after the final whistle. “But now we face a choice—do we remain stuck in the past, or do we come together and move forward?”
Reflecting on his early days in the job, Amorim added: “Six months ago, after two wins and a draw from my first three games, I warned you that a storm was coming. Today, after this disastrous season, I want to tell you that the good days are on their way.”
The 39-year-old concluded his address with a defiant message: “If there is one club in world football capable of overcoming any setback or crisis, it is Manchester United.”
