Scheffler Claims First British Open Title

American golfer Scottie Scheffler secured his maiden British Open crown in style on Sunday, cruising to a dominant four-shot triumph at Royal Portrush to notch his fourth major championship title.

The world number one produced a composed final-round performance, carding a three-under-par 68 to finish the tournament at 17-under overall—having shot in the 60s across all four days.

Scheffler’s steady grip on the tournament was never seriously threatened, especially after he birdied the opening hole on Sunday, seemingly extinguishing any remaining hopes among the chasing contenders.

A brilliant seven-under 64 in Friday’s round had given the American a lead he never looked like relinquishing.

His consistency was on full display once again, as he extended his run of top-10 finishes to 11 consecutive tournaments—a stretch that now includes four victories, among them the PGA Championship and the British Open.

This latest triumph also marked the tenth time Scheffler has converted a 54-hole lead into victory, underlining his remarkable ability to close out tournaments.

He now becomes just the second world number one after Tiger Woods to win the Open Championship, and with this third major win, he moves one step closer to completing the career Grand Slam.

Fellow American Harris English finished a distant runner-up at 13-under par, thanks to a final-round 66.
