Saied Presses Trump Envoy with Gaza Images

Tunisian President Kais Saied showed graphic images of starving children in Gaza to US envoy Massad Boulos during a meeting this week, calling for an end to what he described as crimes against the Palestinian people.

Footage released by Tunisian authorities on Tuesday evening showed Saied confronting Boulos — a senior Africa adviser to US President Donald Trump and father-in-law to Trump’s daughter Tiffany — with the images.

“I believe you are familiar with these pictures,” Saied said, pointing to a photograph of a distressed child “eating sand in occupied Palestine”. He continued to show several similar images, saying they reflected the dire conditions in Gaza.

Saied said the suffering amounted to “crimes against humanity” and urged immediate global action: “It is time for all of humanity to wake up and put an end to these crimes.”

Gaza: 21 Children dead from starvation

The meeting took place as pressure mounts on Israel over the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where more than two million people have endured nearly two years of conflict.

“This is absolutely unacceptable,” Saied added. “It is a crime against all of humanity.” Boulos stood quietly during the exchange, occasionally nodding.

The intervention comes during dire warnings from over 100 aid organisations, who on Wednesday said “mass starvation” is sweeping across Gaza. Many humanitarian workers are also reportedly going without food.

According to the head of Gaza’s largest hospital, 21 children have died from hunger in the past three days alone.

Israel maintains that humanitarian aid is being allowed into Gaza and accuses Hamas of obstructing distribution by seizing aid, selling it at inflated prices, or attacking those waiting for food.

Tunisian media reported that following his visit to Tunis, Boulos continued on to the Libyan capital, Tripoli, on Wednesday.
