2027: PDP to Sanction Members Endorsing Tinubu

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) issued a warning on Friday to party members who are endorsing President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office, advising them to reconsider their positions or risk facing harsher penalties.

It condemned the actions of these members, labelling them as contrary to the party’s interests and in violation of the opposition party’s constitution.

The NWC expressed disappointment over ongoing public criticisms of the PDP from certain notable members, whose actions and statements, including their declarations of support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 presidential election, were deemed a breach of the PDP constitution (as amended in 2017) and posed a significant risk to the party’s stability and longevity.

“In the light of the foregoing and the instancy of protecting and preserving the existence of our Party and its electoral fortune, the NWC, pursuant to the provisions of Section 59 (1) of the PDP Constitution hereby issues a strong reprimand against such anti-party activities and cautions those involved to retrace their steps or face stiffer sanctions as provided in the PDP Constitution,” the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said in a statement.

Nevertheless, the NWC called on its members to remain dedicated and committed. It also encouraged them to diligently prepare for the successful execution of the PDP National Convention scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

Amid the ongoing strife within the PDP, several key party figures have voiced their support for the President’s re-election. On July 28, 2025, former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, publicly endorsed President Tinubu for a second term. Fayose, a senior member of the PDP, also supported Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the APC and his deputy for another term during an APC gathering at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion in Ado Ekiti.

Just five days prior, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, along with the PDP in the state, expressed support for Tinubu’s candidacy in the 2027 elections.
