Obi Queries Tinubu’s UNGA Absence, Hails Mahama

Former Anambra State governor and New Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has questioned President Bola Tinubu’s absence from the United Nations General Assembly for three consecutive years, asking where Nigeria’s leader has been as the country faces domestic and international challenges.

In a statement on Sunday, Obi praised Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama’s address at the 81st UN General Assembly, describing it as an example of leadership driven by competence, commitment and service.

“The international community has commended his leadership and the substance of his address,” Obi said, adding that Mahama’s appearance at the global gathering showed “what leadership can produce when competence, capacity, compassion, commitment and character come together in the service of a nation.”

Obi then questioned Nigeria’s representation at the annual global meeting, noting that Africa’s most populous country has not had its president attend the last three UN General Assembly sessions.

“Where is the President of Africa’s most populous nation, a country of more than 200 million people – more than Ghana – whose leader has been absent from the global stage for three consecutive UNGAs?” he asked.

While acknowledging that Vice President Kashim Shettima attended the event, Obi said questions remained about the president’s absence from a major international platform.

Obi called for continued prayers for President Tinubu’s return and leadership, saying Nigeria requires focused attention to address the challenges confronting the country.
