A magistrate court in Ikeja, Lagos, has dismissed the charges brought against Comfort Emmanson, the passenger accused of assaulting airline personnel on an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos.
The presiding magistrate, Olanrenwaju Salami, released Emmanson from the charges on Wednesday after the police withdrew the five-count charge.
During the court session, police prosecutor Olubunmi Adeitan said that the charges were withdrawn due to the emergence of new information.
Emmanson’s lawyer, Adams Otakpe, expressed no opposition to the retraction of the charges. Following the lawyer’s comments, Salami dismissed the five-count charge against Emmanson.
The Airport police had taken Emmanson to court on Monday for allegedly assaulting airline officials during an incident at the airport. Subsequently, Emmanson was held at Kirikiri Correctional Facility.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, announced that Emmanson would be released this week, confirming that the complaints against her had been withdrawn.
Keyamo also added that the Airlines Operators of Nigeria (AON) has agreed to revoke the lifetime ban that had been imposed on her.
