The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, a move Vice President Kashim Shettima described as a positive step for Nigeria’s development.
Speaking on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja while receiving a UNICEF delegation led by the organisation’s country representative, Ms Wafaa Saeed Abdelatef, Shettima said the administration is determined to strengthen partnerships in health, nutrition, human capital development and education.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a man of courage and conviction, and he is doing everything possible to redefine the concept of modern leadership in Nigeria,” Shettima said.
He highlighted several flagship programmes the government is prioritising, including the Nutrition 774 Initiative, the Nutrition Intervention Fund, and policies aimed at boosting economic and financial inclusion. He also emphasised that investing in young people and expanding access to education are central to the administration’s plans for sustainable growth.
“We are on the cusp of regenerating our economy and rebuilding this nation. The gains of our reforms are manifesting by the day; the inflationary trend is on the decline and by the end of the year, the economy will further stabilise for all to see,” he stated.
Shettima commended UNICEF for its long-standing partnership with Nigeria and expressed confidence that a renewed collaboration would deliver even greater impact.
In her remarks, Abdelatef praised Shettima’s leadership, describing him as “a global citizen,” and assured him that UNICEF would continue aligning its programmes with Nigeria’s priorities in nutrition, human capital development and girl-child education. She also welcomed the government’s interventions such as the Nutrition 774 Initiative, the Nutrition Intervention Fund and the Nutrition Bill, saying the administration’s “vision is clear and the mission is realisable.”
