South Africa retained the Rugby Championship crown with a dramatic 29-27 victory over Argentina at Twickenham, sealing successive titles for the first time in their history.
The Springboks’ trademark power game proved decisive as they overturned an early 10-point deficit, with Cobus Reinach and Malcolm Marx both scoring twice.
Argentina, who led 13-3 after Bautista Delguy’s opening try and Santiago Carreras’ boot, were still ahead at the break, but Marx’s try shortly after half-time swung the momentum.
Reinach added his second before Marx crossed again to put the world champions 29-13 clear. Delguy struck back for the Pumas, and Carreras came agonisingly close with a long-range penalty that rattled the post late on.
Replacement Rodrigo Isgro’s superb finish narrowed the gap further, but it came too late to deny South Africa another piece of silverware.
Victory ensured the Springboks edged out New Zealand on points difference, underlining their dominance just a year after retaining the World Cup.
