Tottenham secured a 2-1 victory over Leeds at Elland Road, despite facing stormy conditions.

The win was sealed by attacking midfielder Mohammed Kudus, who scored his debut goal for the club, lifting Thomas Frank’s side to second place in the Premier League table.

Mathys Tel gave Spurs the lead midway through the first half, finishing a slick counterattack that he himself started with Kudus before his strike deflected past Karl Darlow.

Leeds hit back before the break when Guglielmo Vicario parried Brenden Aaronson’s shot into the path of Noah Okafor, who tapped in to level the contest.

In a second half dominated by driving rain and swirling winds from Storm Amy, the Spurs showed resilience.

Kudus capped his energetic display with a decisive run and shot that deflected off Gabriel Gudmundsson to secure all three points, condemning Leeds to their first home league defeat in more than a year.

Spurs boss Frank praised his side’s mentality in difficult circumstances: “The character was the foundation. To come here, weather the storm – literally – and get over the line is huge.”

The win moves Tottenham within a point of leaders Liverpool, while Arsenal could leapfrog both when they host West Ham later on Saturday.

Leeds remain 12th on eight points from seven games, but manager Daniel Farke insisted his side’s performance gave cause for optimism.

“It hurts to lose at home, of course,” Farke said. “But if we keep playing like this, we’ll be fine in the long run.”

Spurs, who struggled last season to hold onto leads, are yet to drop points after going ahead under Frank’s stewardship, signalling a newfound steeliness that could keep them in contention at the top.
