Napoli striker Rasmus Hojlund once again proved decisive for the club, scoring the match-winning goal in a 2-1 comeback victory over Genoa on Sunday that sent the Serie A champions to the top of the table.
The 22-year-old, fresh from a midweek double against Sporting Lisbon, capitalised on a rebound from Andre-Frank Anguissa’s powerful effort, which Genoa goalkeeper Nicola Leali could only parry, securing Hojlund’s fourth goal in all competitions since his move from Manchester United.
Napoli had to fight hard for the win after falling behind at half-time, with teenager Jeff Ekhator giving Genoa an early lead through only his second Serie A goal.
Anguissa restored parity in the 57th minute, slotting the ball home to set up Hojlund’s late strike that sealed the three points. The victory takes Napoli to 15 points from six league matches, edging ahead of Roma on goal difference.
Roma themselves continued their winning run with a 2-1 success at Fiorentina.
Moise Kean initially gave the hosts the lead with a thunderous strike in the 14th minute, but Matias Soulé and Bryan Cristante responded in the first half to secure Roma’s third consecutive win.
Fiorentina threatened late through Roberto Piccoli, whose volley rattled the crossbar, but the hosts remain winless with just three points, one place above the relegation zone.
