The Akwa Ibom State government has officially denied recent reports claiming that Governor Umo Eno ordered the removal of the security detail assigned to the former governor, Udom Emmanuel.

Speaking to journalists at the Government House in Uyo, Commissioner for Information Aniekan Umanah dismissed the claims as false and misleading.

He clarified that governors have no authority over the deployment or reassignment of police officers.

“The deployment, reassignment, or withdrawal of police officers is solely the responsibility of the Inspector-General of Police and the state’s Commissioner of Police, not any governor,” Umanah stated.

He stressed that Governor Eno never directed the withdrawal of security personnel from the former governor and confirmed that all ex-governors in the state continue to receive security protection as provided by law.

“To our knowledge, no former governor or their media team has reported any withdrawal of security officers. This rumour exists only in the imagination of those spreading it,” Umanah added.

The commissioner urged the public to ignore what he called “baseless propaganda,” emphasising that Governor Eno remains committed to fostering peace, unity, and effective governance in the state.

Emmanuel, who was instrumental in Eno’s election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023, is widely seen as his political mentor.

However, their relationship is believed to have cooled in recent months following Eno’s reported defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
