NCAA Warns Airlines on Ticket Refund Delays NCAA Warns Airlines on Ticket Refund Delays

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has warned domestic airlines to stop informing passengers that ticket refunds will take four weeks, as this contradicts the regulator’s regulations, which mandate a 14-day refund period.

In light of this, the agency has urged passengers who have been promised four-week refunds to send those communications to NCAA officials for investigation.

The NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, issued this reminder in a statement on X on Monday. This notice comes as passenger complaints regarding delayed refunds due to cancellations and disruptions continue to rise.

NCAA Warns Airlines on Ticket Refund Delays

“Domestic airlines NEED to stop telling passengers that their refund process takes 4 weeks. There can’t be two captains-in-command on an aircraft.

“The NCAA regulations clearly state that the timeframe for ticket refunds is 14 days. Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023 remains in force. Operators cannot create a different rule in this regard.

“To all passengers: if you apply for a refund and an airline tells you that it would take 4 weeks, kindly forward that communication to [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] immediately.” He said.

In recent months, the NCAA has indicated it will penalise airlines that do not issue refunds within the timeframe outlined in its regulations, emphasising that timely refunds should be a straightforward priority for airlines.
