 Tension has enveloped Shelleng Local Government Area of Adamawa State after 33 cows were killed, 18 others went missing, and a herder was reported missing.

The missing herder was identified as Manu Mamuda.

Spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the incident on Tuesday, noting that it occurred in the Kiri area of the council.

“Police have been deployed to the scene to contain the situation. Officers are already on the ground to prevent escalation and to apprehend those responsible,” Nguroje said.

A local resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that Mamuda had taken his herd out to graze but never returned.

“When his companions went in search of him, they found 33 cows dead and 18 others missing. Mamuda’s blood-stained cap and some spent cartridges were also discovered at the site,” the source added.

The incident has heightened anxiety in the area, with authorities working to prevent potential reprisals.
