US hip-hop icon Sean “Diddy” Combs has been moved to a New Jersey prison to begin serving his sentence of four years and two months for crimes related to prostitution, as indicated by a federal record on Friday.
He is currently held at the low-security Fort Dix prison, located approximately 130 kilometres (80 miles) south of New York, a facility recognised for its drug rehabilitation programs.
His legal team had requested that Combs be relocated to the prison where he will remain until May 8, 2028, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
After being arrested in September 2024, the music mogul was found guilty in July on two counts of transporting individuals across state lines for prostitution. However, a jury found him not guilty of the more severe charges of sex trafficking and racketeering.
Addressing the court with tears in his eyes before the judge delivered the sentence, which accounts for the time he has already spent in a well-known Brooklyn detention centre, Combs expressed that he was “truly sorry” for his actions.
He extended his apologies to his family and his victims, labeling his conduct as “disgusting, shameful, and sick.”
Combs has filed an appeal against both his conviction and the sentence imposed.
