The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the 2025 admissions deadline for public universities from October 31 to November 17, 2025.
In a statement shared on its official X handle on Sunday, November 2, the Board said the extension was granted to accommodate emerging circumstances and allow institutions more time to conclude their admission processes.
JAMB recalled that during the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions, held on July 18, 2025, under the chairmanship of the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Alausa, it had originally set October 31 as the deadline for all public universities to complete admissions.
According to the statement, the new deadline was approved for two main reasons: an appeal from the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) and the recent accreditation of new programmes by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

“AVCNU specially appealed for an extension due to disruptions caused by several factors, including a court order directing that the status quo be maintained on the 2025/2026 admission list. The order was only lifted on October 28, 2025,” the statement explained.
It added, “In line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to expand access to higher education, the NUC on October 29, 2025, released a list of 229 newly accredited programmes across 37 universities, for which admissions are now being processed.”
JAMB commended universities for their commitment to meeting the original deadline but said the extension would ensure fairness and inclusivity across all institutions.
The Board emphasised that November 17, 2025, remains the final deadline, urging all universities to comply.
It reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent, credible, and equitable admission process that aligns with national education goals and respects institutional autonomy.
