France captain and Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe will miss the upcoming World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan this weekend due to an ankle injury.
The French Football Federation (FFF) confirmed the news on Friday, stating that the 26-year-old had experienced right ankle inflammation and would undergo tests in Madrid.
Mbappe had been in top form, scoring twice in Thursday’s 4-0 win over Ukraine, which secured France’s place in next year’s tournament.
Coach Didier Deschamps will also be without Eduardo Camavinga (injury) and Manu Kone (suspension) for the final match of their campaign in Baku on Sunday.
