Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has granted a pardon to Sunday Jackson, who was previously sentenced to death, alongside two other inmates.
The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Humwashi Wonosikou, announced the decision in a statement issued on Tuesday, December 23, in Yola.
He said the pardons formed part of activities marking the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Wonosikou disclosed that the beneficiaries of the pardon are Sunday Jackson of the Kuje Medium Security Custodial Centre, Joseph Eugene of the Yola New Medium Security Custodial Centre, and Maxwell Ibrahim of the Kaduna Medium Security Custodial Centre.

The governor also approved the full remission of the remaining jail terms of five other inmates. They include Joshua James Audo, Adamu Ibrahim, Mohammed Abubakar, Ibrahim Usman and Saidu Abubakar, who are currently serving sentences at the Medium Security Custodial Centres in Numan and Jada.
According to the statement, Governor Fintiri based his decision on the inmates’ improved behaviour and conduct while in custody.
He exercised his constitutional prerogative of mercy following recommendations from the Adamawa State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy.
The governor said the affected inmates had served various terms and consistently demonstrated good conduct over the years.
Wonosikou added that the gesture aimed to offer the beneficiaries a fresh start and support their rehabilitation and reintegration into society during the festive season.
