The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed the relevance of Bode George, a founding member and former deputy national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying the party elder has nothing to offer the party.

Wike made the comments during a media chat on Monday in Rivers State, where he questioned George’s influence within the PDP, referencing the party’s repeated failure to win elections in Lagos State.

“People like Bode George have nothing to contribute to this party,” Wike said. “Since 1999, Bode George has been the deputy national chairman of PDP. Has PDP ever won in Lagos since 1999? So how can you allow such a person to begin to dictate to the party?”

The former Rivers State governor said political relevance within a party should be based on measurable contributions and electoral performance, not constant media commentary.

“You see, ‘party’ means ‘what can you contribute?'” As I sit here, as a PDP member, and anybody who knows my position knows my position. We said, if we don’t do this right, we will not support this.  I will support President Bola  Tinubu.”

Despite losing the 2023 presidential poll, Wike emphasised that the PDP showed strength in other elections.

“However, in the national assembly, governorship, and state assembly, PDP won. That means we have something to contribute. “

He added that age or status as a party elder does not automatically confer relevance.

“You, every day, come out on national television to talk. Because you have nothing to begin. So, when you say people like Bode George, he’s an old man, yes.  But for what relevance?”

In November 2025, the PDP expelled Wike, former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose, and the party’s embattled National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, amid deepening internal divisions within the opposition party.
