Morocco defender Achraf Hakimi has revealed that Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe loves the country.
Mbappe was in Rabat on Friday to support Hakimi, his close friend and former Paris Saint-Germain teammate, during Morocco’s Group A clash with Mali at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Speaking about the visit, Hakimi said Mbappé was enjoying his time in Morocco, including the local culture and cuisine.
He noted that the French star had taken a liking to Moroccan food and was clearly pleased to be in the country.
“Kylian Mbappe really loves Morocco. He’s enjoying our country. He’s enjoying Moroccan food, from what I understand.”
Hakimi also disclosed that Mbappé shared his thoughts on the Atlas Lions’ prospects at the tournament, expressing confidence in Morocco’s ability to contend for the title.
However, Mbappé reportedly acknowledged that the competition remains tough, with several other strong teams also in the race for the AFCON crown.
“He said we’re a candidate to win this AFCON, but there are also a lot of others,” Hakimi stated.
