We Have No Plan to Toll Third Mainland Bridge

The Nigerian Government has said it has no plans to toll the rehabilitated Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, according to the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi.

Umahi spoke on Sunday while responding to questions from journalists after inaugurating a N40 billion Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) Camera Centre installed on the bridge.

According to him, tolling the bridge would require additional construction, which might jeopardise its structural integrity and worsen traffic conditions.

“We will not engage in construction on this bridge because it will entail static load on the bridge,” Umahi said.

“It is also within the town, so it will introduce many bottlenecks; that is why we are not tolling this bridge.”

Umahi added that security on the 11-kilometre bridge would be handled by the police, with a targeted response time of 5 minutes in the event of an incident.

“We are allowing the police to do the needful,” he said, adding that towing vans and ambulances would be stationed on the bridge to handle emergencies.

“We want life to be very smooth and sweet for Nigerians; that is what President Bola Tinubu stands for.That is the reason God brought him in spite of all the challenges,” he added.
