Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has taken a swipe at the 2027 presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), questioning the rationale behind pairing former Vice President Atiku Abubakar with former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi as his running mate.

Wike made the remarks on Tuesday during the unveiling of the Rivers Rainbow Coalition candidates.

He urged the public to demand accountability and examine the track records of political candidates under the concept of “Operation Show Your Report Card.”

Wike proceeded to critique Amaechi’s tenure as governor of Rivers State, a state he noted shares borders with Imo and Abia states.

Wike alleged that Amaechi initiated a mosquito fumigation project and paid out $10 million for it.

“As bad as Atiku’s ticket is, attaching Rotimi Amaechi as a vice wasn’t it. It is important for you to show record; that is what we mean by Operation Show Your Report Card,” Wike said.

“Rotimi was the governor of the state. The man came and said he was going to fumigate Rivers State. This is a state that has boundaries with Imo, with Abia. He paid out 10 million US dollars. 10 million US dollars?  10 million US dollars today is 14 billion Naira

“If you allow him to be vice president, will he fumigate Nigeria too? Will he fumigate Nigeria so that there will be no mosquito bites?”

Wike alleged that Amaechi authorised a $10 million payment for an unfulfilled initiative and allocated $39 million (then equivalent to N53 billion) for the Justice Karibi-Whyte Specialist Hospital.

According to Wike, the former governor demolished the existing Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital to make way for the 1,000-bed facility, but failed to lay its foundation.

“Ask Rotimi Amaechi, where is the foundation of the Karibi-Whyte Specialist Hospital?” Wike said.

“39 million US dollars gone. 53 billion Naira gone.”

The minister also pointed to a N68 billion monorail project, which he said was inspired by a trip to Dubai but ultimately produced no infrastructure.

“He (Amaechi) travelled to Dubai; he saw monorail, and he came here. He said, ‘ Oh my God, I will put Monorail that will change the landscape of Rivers State’… Monorail, wey we spend 68 billion Naira. No Monorail today,” he concluded.
