Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have killed two suspected terrorists in Kebbi State and rescued 62 kidnapped victims in Zamfara State, the Nigerian Army said on Wednesday.
The Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division/Sector 2, Olaniyi Osoba, said the Kebbi operation followed intelligence on the movement of suspected members of the Lakurawa group near the border between Augie and Binji.
According to Osoba, troops laid an ambush at Kerani village, where they engaged the suspects, killing two and recovering two motorcycles.
“Troops laid an ambush at Kerani village, where they engaged the terrorists, resulting in the elimination of two of them and the recovery of two motorcycles,” Osoba said.
He said the suspects were dressed in camouflage and rode motorcycles fitted for long-distance movement, including padding and hand tyre pumps.
In a separate operation in Zamfara, Osoba said troops raided Munhaye Forest, known as a hideout of bandit leader Kachalla Alti, after intelligence indicated that abducted persons were being held there.

“The operation led to the successful rescue of 62 kidnapped victims who are now in safe custody,” Osoba said, adding that arrangements were underway to reunite them with their families after screening and support.
He said the operations were carried out in coordination with other security agencies and local vigilantes.
“These successes reflect the relentless efforts of Operation FANSAN YAMMA and its partners to dismantle criminal networks, restore security and protect lives in the region,” he added.
