The flagbearer of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the recently concluded Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) election in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Moses Ogidi, has blamed his defeat on alleged results manipulation and other “widespread irregularities”.

In a statement shared on X by Ogidi, the AMAC ADC candidate condemned the results and accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of taking Nigerians for granted.

According to him, the election results did not reflect the true will of Abuja residents.

Ogidi blamed his loss on the curfew-imposed restrictions on movement and alleged intimidation and attacks on ADC party members by security agencies, massive vote buying across several wards, and voter suppression caused by the late arrival of election materials in key polling units.

“I have reviewed the outcome as announced. While I firmly believe, based on our extensive engagement and the overwhelming spirit of our movement, that we earned the sacred mandate of the people, I strongly condemn the declared results, as they do not reflect the true will of the residents of Abuja,” Ogidi’s post read in part.

“Among those who voted, many have expressed deep disagreement with the announced outcome due to widespread irregularities. These include the restriction of movement through the imposition of a curfew; the intimidation and attacks on ADC party members by security agencies; massive vote buying across several wards; and voter suppression caused by the late arrival of election materials in key polling units, including Kabusa, among others.

“There were also cases of alteration and mutilation of polling unit results, which tragically contributed to the death of Musa Abubakar at the Gwagwa polling unit while he was trying to protect his vote.

“I have since visited his family and have ensured that his children will be placed on scholarship, as a modest commitment to honour his courage and sacrifice. I am calling on the relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure justice.”

He added that these incidents undermine the integrity of the electoral process and the people’s confidence in Nigeria’s democracy.
