Three people, including a member of the Edo State Security Corps, Martins Enahoro, have been confirmed dead following separate violent incidents in the Sobe and Ewatto communities in Edo State.
Fifteen suspects have also been arrested in connection with the incidents, while those injured are receiving treatment at various hospitals.
The Edo State Police Command disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday by its spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem.
According to the statement, the first incident occurred at about 10am on Sunday, August 23, 2026, in Sobe, following an attack on a resident, identified as Ojo Gabriel, and subsequent confrontation involving security personnel.
Ikoedem said Gabriel had reported a case of assault occasioning harm and malicious damage at the Sobe Police Division after youths allegedly attacked his residence and vehicles, damaging window glasses.
She said police detectives and personnel of the Edo State Security Corps were subsequently deployed to the area but were attacked by the youths upon arrival.
The attackers allegedly damaged the side glass of a police patrol vehicle and assaulted members of the security corps before taking away two locally made single-barrel guns belonging to the personnel.
Three Edo State Security Corps personnel, Tunde Ali, Izedu Monday and Charles Ighororo, sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.
The police spokesperson added that three unidentified youths also sustained pellet injuries during the confrontation, while one of them later died while receiving treatment at David and Stella Hospital, Sabongida-Ora.
The deceased was deposited at Heavenly Home Mortuary, Sabongida-Ora, as efforts continue to establish his identity and locate his family.
Eleven suspects were arrested in connection with the Sobe incident, while the two stolen firearms were recovered.
The police said security had been reinforced in the area with the deployment of police and military personnel, adding that normalcy had been restored.
ESSC Personnel, Suspect Killed In Ewatto
In a separate incident at Ewatto, the police said an Edo State Security Network personnel, Martins Enahoro, was attacked by suspected members of the Aro Berger confraternity, including individuals identified by their aliases as Gbozia and Gezo.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 12:20pm on Sunday.
According to the police, preliminary investigations showed that Enahoro stabbed one of his alleged attackers, identified as Gbozia, while attempting to defend himself.
Enahoro subsequently sustained multiple cut injuries.
Both men were rushed to God’s Will Hospital, Ewohimi, where they were confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
Their remains were deposited at the mortuary pending further investigation.
Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the Ewatto incident. The police said two of the suspects had confessed to belonging to the Vikings and Aiye confraternities.
The suspects have been transferred to the Area Command Headquarters for further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects.
The police also said the Police Mobile Force, Squadron 82, had been deployed as reinforcement to the area.
The Command warned that attacks on security personnel were criminal offences and would not be tolerated.
The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, Patrick Daaor, urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding and provide the police with information that could assist the investigations.
Daaor reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
