A Magistrate Court sitting in Sagamu has adjourned the case involving the driver, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, linked to the road crash that affected former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua to March 17, 2026.
The case, presided over by Magistrate Olufumilayo Somefun at Magistrate Court 1, was deferred to allow the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who recently assumed control of the matter, adequate time to prepare for trial.
The defendant, Kayode, faces multiple charges, including dangerous driving resulting in death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care leading to injury and property damage, and operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s licence.
The court granted the prosecution’s request for more time, fixing March 17 for the continuation of proceedings.

Kayode, a 46-year-old driver, was involved in the accident that led to the deaths of Joshua’s personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami.
The fatal crash occurred on December 29, 2025, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when a Lexus SUV collided with a stationary truck. Joshua and the driver sustained minor injuries in the incident.
Following medical evaluation, Joshua was discharged from the hospital and advised to continue recovery at home.
The boxer later visited a funeral home in Lagos with his mother to pay last respects to the deceased before their remains were repatriated to the United Kingdom.
A funeral prayer was subsequently held on January 4, 2026, at the London Central Mosque.
Ayodele and Ghami were key members of Joshua’s team, and their deaths drew widespread reactions across the global boxing community.
