The Nigerian Government has issued an advisory for its citizens in Iran and the Gulf region, urging them to remain vigilant and avoid non-essential movement and travel within those countries.

The advisory comes a few hours after Israel launched strikes on Iran and explosions in Kuwait, the UAE and Manama as Iran reportedly retaliated against the joint strike by the US and Israel, which swept Iran on Saturday morning.

In a statement signed by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, released on Saturday, she noted that the Nigerian Government is closely monitoring the situation in Iran and the Gulf countries.

“Against targets in the Islamic Republic of Iran and subsequent retaliatory actions by Iran on targets of some Gulf countries,” the statement read in part.

The ministry urged Nigerians in the affected regions to be mindful of their surroundings and to avoid areas known to be strategic, military, or government installations, adding that these regions could be potential hotspots. Nigerians in those regions were also advised to avoid large gatherings and join public demonstrations.

It also appealed to Nigerians to comply with local security and safety directives until the situation de-escalates and normalcy returns. Nigerians in those rejoicing were also enjoined to establish communication with the Nigerian Embassy in Qatar, Bahrain, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia.
