Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has defended his support for Tinubu, insisting he owes no one an apology for his actions.

While speaking during a media chat on Monday morning, Wike, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), explained why he supported Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 election against the PDP’s presidential candidate.

Justifying his actions, Wike said that the PDP attempted to violate their constitution by selecting a candidate from the north to contest in the 2023 presidential election, a decision he criticised.

“I came out, and I said I was not going to take that, and I was going to support a Southern candidate, and I pitched my tent where the president today is, so the issue of how I feel,” said Wike.

“And I have also said severally that, as it is today, my party appears not to have learnt, and that I am also going to support Mr President for a second term in office. And I did not mince words to say, as a minister, that my party never consulted me on the candidates they were going to present.”

Wike further noted that he never said he would support any party but would rather support candidates who were Tinubu’s supporters, regardless of the political party they belonged to.

The minister has also been accused of “working” for the opposition. However, he dismissed the allegation during Monday’s media chat, insisting that he is only supporting Tinubu.
