Early Tuesday, a drone attack struck the United States embassy in Riyadh, sparking a fire and causing material damage as Iran intensified its retaliatory strikes across the Gulf.

Saudi defence officials confirmed that while two drones impacted the embassy grounds, air defence systems successfully intercepted four others targeting the city’s high-security diplomatic quarter.

The facility has since been closed, with embassy officials issuing an urgent “shelter in place” order for American citizens in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dhahran.

The assault on the Saudi capital is part of a massive, coordinated offensive launched by Tehran following Saturday’s joint U.S.-Israeli strikes.

The conflict has rapidly evolved into a regional war, with Iran targeting a wide array of civilian and economic infrastructure, including ports, luxury hotels, and residential buildings.

Beyond Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar reported intercepting barrages of ballistic missiles, while the U.S. mission in Kuwait City was also confirmed to have sustained direct damage from drone strikes on Monday.

The Saudi Defence Ministry remains on high alert, reporting that it destroyed an additional eight drones near the capital and the city of Al-Kharj later on Tuesday.

The escalating violence has shattered the long-standing stability of the oil-rich region, forcing Western diplomatic missions to severely restrict movement and non-essential travel.

As smoke continues to rise over the diplomatic quarters of several Gulf nations, the U.S. State Department has begun withdrawing non-emergency personnel from neighbouring countries.

This wave of aggression follows Iran’s vow to avenge the death of its supreme leader and the deaths of dozens of civilians killed in the initial U.S.-Israeli operation.

By targeting the sovereign territory of U.S. allies and diplomatic facilities, Tehran has signalled its intent to wage an unrestricted campaign across the Middle East.

With major transit hubs and embassies now in the line of fire, the regional security landscape has shifted into a state of total high-alert warfare.
