Ikeja Electric on Tuesday announced that households and businesses across Lagos are facing reduced electricity supply due to a nationwide decline in power generation.
Thermal power plants, which continue to be the nation’s main source of electricity, have insufficient gas supplies, according to a statement released by Kingsley Okotie, the company’s head of corporate communications.
Okotie explained that the shortfall has disrupted electricity distribution to customers, leading to intermittent outages and load shedding across its network.

Okotie, however, reassured customers of the company’s dedication to fair and efficient distribution of the limited power available.
“The ongoing reduction in electricity supply is largely due to a nationwide drop in power generation, caused by limited gas supply to thermal power plants.
“This has significantly reduced the energy available on the national grid and, consequently, the allocation to Ikeja Electric and other distribution companies,” he said.
“The management regrets the inconvenience caused and appreciates the patience and understanding of our customers during this period.
“We remain committed to distributing the available power as efficiently and equitably as possible,” he said.
He appealed to customers to remain patient while efforts continue at the national level to boost gas supply and stabilise electricity generation.
The development follows a deterioration in power supply across Lagos, with residents and businesses expressing frustration over the poor electricity situation.
