World number one Aryna Sabalenka moved one step closer to a historic “Sunshine Double” on Thursday, defeating rival Elena Rybakina 6-4, 6-3 in a dominant semi-final performance at the Miami Open.
Sabalenka, fresh off her title in Indian Wells, delivered a masterclass in aggressive tennis, firing nine aces and breaking the second-ranked Kazakh four times.
The victory sets up a high-stakes final against American star Coco Gauff, who secured her place in the title match with a swift 6-1, 6-1 victory over Karolina Muchova.
Gauff’s return to form has been particularly impressive, coming less than three weeks after a nerve injury forced her to withdraw from Indian Wells.
After an early double fault in her semi-final, the fourth-ranked American surged to win ten consecutive games, showcasing significant improvements in her forehand.

Saturday’s final will be a rematch of their many heavyweight encounters, with Sabalenka looking to become the first woman since 2016 to sweep both prestigious March hardcourt tournaments.
On the men’s side, Jannik Sinner continued his flawless run, dismantling Frances Tiafoe 6-2, 6-2 to reach the semi-finals.
Sinner, who also triumphed at Indian Wells, has now won 30 consecutive sets at the ATP Masters 1000 level.
He will face Alexander Zverev in a semi-final clash that mirrors their recent meeting in California.
With both Sabalenka and Sinner still in contention, 2026 could mark the first time in a decade that both the men’s and women’s tours crown a Sunshine Double winner in the same year.
