Serbian basketball player Nikola Jokic delivered a masterful 40-point performance to lead the Denver Nuggets to a thrilling 136-134 overtime victory against the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday.

The three-time MVP added 13 assists and eight rebounds, guiding Denver to their eighth consecutive win and halting San Antonio’s impressive 11-game streak.

The contest featured a high-stakes duel between Jokic and Victor Wembanyama, who returned from a minor ankle injury to post 34 points, 18 rebounds, and five blocks in what he described as one of the most “fun” games of the season.

Despite trailing for much of the night and facing an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter, Denver’s veteran poise proved decisive in the extra period.

Gordon, who finished with 15 points, emphasised that the win was a critical marker for the team’s playoff readiness as they move closer to securing the third seed in the Western Conference.

Elsewhere in the league, the Detroit Pistons made history by clinching the top seed in the Eastern Conference for the first time since 2007.

Their 116-93 win over the Philadelphia 76ers guaranteed home-court advantage throughout the regional playoffs, a remarkable feat achieved despite the recent absence of star guard Cade Cunningham.

Meanwhile, the Miami Heat bolstered their play-in positioning with a high-scoring 152-136 victory over the Washington Wizards, led by a career-high 32 points from Jaime Jaquez Jr. off the bench.
