Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has warned residents against harbouring or providing logistical support to Boko Haram insurgents after military airstrikes targeted a border market reportedly used by the group’s logistics suppliers.
The warning came after the Air Component of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai, conducted strikes on April 11, 2026, in the Jilli general area of Gubio Local Government Area, a border community between Borno and Yobe states.
Zulum, in a statement shared by his media adviser, Dauda Iliya, on Sunday, described the Jilli market as a notorious hub allegedly used by insurgents and their logistics networks.
“I have been properly briefed on the airstrike carried out by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai on Jilli market, a border town between Borno and Yobe states,” Zulum said.
“Let me state categorically that the Borno State Government closed Jilli and Gazabure markets five years ago,” he added.
The governor said he was in close consultation with the Yobe State government and the Defence Headquarters hierarchy over the incident.
Zulum explained that his administration maintains close coordination with the military and other security agencies before resettling any community or reopening markets, particularly in areas affected by insurgency.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to safeguarding law-abiding citizens and sustaining collaboration with security agencies to restore lasting peace across the state.
The governor called on residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security forces by providing credible information to aid ongoing
military operations.

Since Boko Haram began its campaign in 2009, Borno State has been the focal point of Nigeria’s 16-year insurgency, which has resulted in thousands of deaths and millions of displaced people.
