The United Kingdom government has announced plans to ramp up enforcement against illegal working, introducing tougher measures aimed at both employers and workers without legal status.
In a post on X on Tuesday, the Home Office stated it would adopt a zero-tolerance stance and outlined three enforcement actions to be rolled out.
According to the department, the new measures are designed to strengthen immigration enforcement and discourage businesses from hiring individuals without authorisation to work.
Regulatory bodies may conduct on-site inspections and verification checks at company premises as part of the enhanced compliance activity.

The planned steps include conducting employment eligibility checks, deporting unauthorised workers, and subjecting non-compliant companies to financial penalties without an upper limit.
“Illegal working will not be tolerated in the UK. We are: Introducing right to work checks; Removing illegal workers from the UK; Ensuring companies who break the rules face unlimited fines,” the Home Office wrote.

The announcement comes in response to mounting political pressure on the government to address concerns regarding off-the-books employment in a number of industries and to take more aggressive action on immigration.
