Kwara North monarchs, political leaders, and stakeholders from the Senatorial District have declared their support for Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s interest in a second term.
At a mega rally at the Metropolitan Square in Ilorin, stakeholders and speakers said Tinubu has performed well and deserves a second term. They also urged him to support their search for the next governor of Kwara State, citing what they described as a longstanding marginalisation of the district in the state’s leadership.
Speaking on behalf of Kwara North traditional rulers, the Emir of Lafiagi, Alhaji Muhammad Kudu Kawu, expressed concern about the power shift as a reflection of the people’s persistent aspirations.
Kawu noted that the district has remained on the margins of the state’s top leadership despite its contributions to electoral victories and political stability. He explained that Kwara North has consistently demonstrated loyalty and unity during elections and has notably contributed to the ruling party’s success, thereby deserving consideration in the spirit of fairness and inclusiveness.
Additionally, the Emir appealed to the Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Traditional Rulers, the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, to prevail on the state government and major stakeholders to support the emergence of a governor from Kwara North.

Also speaking at the rally was former Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly and two-time minister, Hon. Issa Bio Ibrahim, who spoke on behalf of district leaders and stakeholders.
He announced that the district will support any of its sons who emerge as the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ‘s gubernatorial candidate to occupy the state’s top political office for the first time since Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999.
Ibrahim also appealed to the people of Kwara Central and Kwara South to support the district’s ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
A former state legislator and Commissioner for Information, Hon. AbdulMumin Katibi, presented statistical data displaying that Kwara North has consistently produced the second-largest voting bloc in the state after Kwara Central.
Katibi said the data highlighted the district’s vital role in the emergence of past governors from other zones. He affirmed that the time has come for other districts to repay the support they received from Kwara North in producing the next governor of the state.
