Bauchi Central Senator Abdul Ningi has urged the Nigerian government and security agencies to swiftly prosecute and publicly parade suspects arrested over the abduction of pupils and teachers in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Speaking during Senate plenary on Wednesday, Ningi said those responsible for the attack should face the full weight of the law to serve as a deterrent to others. He warned that any delay in prosecuting the suspects could erode public confidence in the country’s justice system.

According to the lawmaker, security agencies must ensure that those arrested are promptly arraigned and prosecuted to demonstrate the government’s commitment to tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes.
The victims, comprising pupils and teachers from Baptist Nursery and Primary School, LA Primary School and Community Grammar School, were kidnapped by gunmen before being rescued after spending 56 days in captivity.
Ningi said the successful rescue should be followed by decisive legal action against those responsible for the crime, stressing that justice must not only be done but also be seen to be done.
He maintained that a transparent prosecution process would reinforce public trust in security institutions while sending a strong message that kidnapping and related offences would not be tolerated anywhere in the country.
