One person has been confirmed dead, while others sustained varying injuries following a fatal road crash at Immigration Junction, Agu Awka, along the Awka–Enugu Expressway in Anambra State on Wednesday.

The accident, which occurred around 11 a.m., involved a Mack LPG tanker and a commercial tricycle (Keke) with registration number UMZ002QJ, leading to the immediate death of the tricycle rider.

Eyewitnesses said the tricycle operator was trying to navigate past security personnel who were diverting traffic due to ongoing roadworks when the fully loaded tanker, reportedly experiencing brake failure, struck him.

She stated that two male adults were involved in the crash, adding that the tricycle rider died on the spot while the tanker driver escaped unhurt.

According to her, preliminary findings showed that brake failure led to a loss of control.

FRSC rescue teams arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and confirmed the victim dead. His remains were evacuated and deposited at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital morgue in Awka.

She added that fire service officials were placed on standby due to the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) content of the tanker to prevent further danger.

The FRSC reiterated its commitment to road safety enforcement and emergency response, urging members of the public to report accidents via its emergency line, 122.

The Sector Commander of the FRSC in Anambra State, Bridget Asekhauno, expressed sorrow over the incident and warned drivers—particularly those operating articulated vehicles—to ensure proper vehicle maintenance.

She also advised motorists to reduce speed at junctions, diversions, and construction zones, stressing that the crash was avoidable and that human lives are irreplaceable.
