Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar says the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has become the main opposition party capable of challenging and defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next general election.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, Atiku described the ADC as a party grounded in ideals, structure, and determination. He said he remained convinced that the party had become Nigeria’s genuine opposition force and was prepared to take on what he called a failing APC in future elections.
“I remain convinced that the ADC has risen as Nigeria’s true opposition force, one that is strong in ideals, structure, and resolve, and ready to challenge and defeat the failing APC in the elections ahead,” he wrote.
Yesterday evening, I received stakeholders of the Adamawa State chapter of the ADC at my Abuja residence, a visit that deeply touched me. I thanked them for the gesture and reminded the new state leadership that unity is now their sacred duty: to heal divisions, carry everyone… pic.twitter.com/21Cm3fp5n5

The former vice-president also disclosed that he hosted stakeholders of the ADC from Adamawa State at his Abuja residence on Friday, describing the visit as meaningful.

He stated that he thanked them for the gesture and urged the new state leadership to prioritise unity, mend internal divisions, carry members along and lead fairly.
Atiku’s remarks came a day after ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi said Nigerians were determined to vote President Bola Tinubu out in 2027, accusing the administration’s policies of worsening hardship and damaging livelihoods.
Abdullahi was responding to comments made by Tinubu on Thursday while receiving members of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors at the Presidential Villa.
The president had dismissed growing opposition efforts ahead of the next election, saying attempts to intimidate him would fail because he had faced similar challenges before.
“They want to scare me off? It’s a lie. I’ve been through this path before,” the president said.
Reacting, Abdullahi said the comments suggested a leadership disconnected from the hardship, insecurity and frustration being experienced by many Nigerians.
