The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has reiterated that he will serve a four-year term if elected president in the 2027 general election.
Obi, who was the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, dismissed suggestions that his single-term pledge was merely a strategy to secure electoral victory.
Speaking during an interview on Sunday Politics on Channels Television, the former Anambra State governor said his decision was based on an agreement reached with his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

According to Obi, the agreement would be honoured if they are elected.
Responding to comments by Kwankwaso that there was an understanding for Obi to serve only four years, he said, “It was an agreement.”
“As gentlemen, we must respect the agreement,” he added.
Obi maintained that four years would be sufficient to set Nigeria on the right path.
“I don’t need more than four years to show the path Nigeria will take. It’s a simple thing,” he said.
He reaffirmed his commitment to leaving office after a single term.
“And I say it again: I will serve for four years — full stop. If you want me, it’s four years, full stop — not a day more,” Obi said.
