The Israeli Army has announced the death of one of its soldiers who died during combat in South Lebanon.

The Israeli military, in a statement, identified the deceased soldier as 31-year-old Lidor Porat, who hailed from Ashdod.

Porat was a soldier in the 7106th Battalion, 769th Regional Brigade. According to the army, the 31-year-old soldier fell during combat in southern Lebanon, where a temporary ceasefire mediated by the United States (US) had come into effect.

Porat’s death was the second death of an Israeli soldier who had died in Lebanon since the ten-day ceasefire began on Friday. The ceasefire is part of ongoing efforts to halt the ongoing escalations in the Middle East, which have persisted for more than a month.

Lebanon became a party to the Middle East conflict when Hezbollah began launching strikes against Israel after US/Israeli airstrikes killed the late Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei on February 28.

The Israeli military retaliated with strikes, which it claimed targeted Hezbollah in Beirut and the southern parts of Lebanon.

While speaking at a news conference before the commencement of discussions between Israeli and Lebanese envoys on Tuesday, Israel’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gideon Saar, labelled Hezbollah as the “problem” between his country and Lebanon.
