Three soldiers were killed on Tuesday after a tank exploded during a military exercise in Japan, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said.
The accident occurred at a training ground used by Japan’s Self-Defence Forces in the southwestern Oita region.

Authorities said tank ammunition reportedly misfired inside the vehicle, killing the three crew members and injuring another soldier.
Officials said the cause of the incident remains under investigation.
Takaichi in a post on X( formerly Twitter) described the tragedy as deeply regrettable and expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
“We deeply regret that this situation has come to pass.
“We offer our heartfelt condolences for the souls of the deceased crew members, and extend our sympathies to their bereaved families in their profound grief.
“The government will endeavor to determine the cause of this incident and to thoroughly strengthen safety management.”
